Topic :The Tiny Thimble

DAY 1

FOCUS : Listening & Speaking

TOPIC: The Tiny Timble

OBJECTIVE : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

a)  Respond to a story heard verbally.

b) Talk about a stimulus with guidance.

PRE
(10 mins)

-        Play a song entitled “TheTiny Timble”
-        Talk about the song.
-        Repeat the song.
WHILE
(25 mins)
-        Teacher displays the story and read aloud with the students.
-        Pupils listen and follow the text.
-        Group and individual readings.
-        Teacher points to the words with ‘th’ sounds.
-        Pupils repeat the words after the teacher.
POST
(25 mins)

-        Teacher uses words cards to reinforce words starting with ‘th’ sounds in the story.
-        Get pupils to say the words aloud while one of the pupils point to the words.
-        Sing the song again.

-        Teacher helps pupils distinguish the hard and soft sounds.
-        Pupils are required to place their palm in front of their mouths and utter the words.

-        Pupils read the announcements on pg 119 of the textbook.

-        Teacher demonstrates the correct formation of letter ‘th’.
-        Trace the letter ‘th’ on activity sheet.
-        Pupils write or form the letter ‘th’.

(25 mins)

-        Find the letter ‘th’ on the given activity sheet.
-        Fill in the missing ‘th’ on activity sheet.
-        Complete the puzzle with the missing ‘th’ words.

a)  Retell a story heard with guidance.

-        Teacher read the story and pupils listen.
WHILE
(25 mins)
-        Teacher reads the story again and asks for volunteers to role play as a lady, a girl, a mother and a narrator. (finger puppets)
POST
(25 mins)

-        Teacher divides pupils into groups of 6 and gives each group a tongue twister.
-        Pupils practice the tongue twister in their respective groups.
-        They then present their tongue twisters.

Teaching and Learning Strategies :       

1) Teacher shows the pictures of animals, pupils guess the  names.

2) Teacher teaches the sound made by animals, pupils   initiate.

3) Teacher made the sound made by animals and pupils  guess the name of the animals





Teaching Aids     : Picture of animals: cow, bee, monkey, dog, snake.



Added Value       : The pupils act like animals in groups

DAY 2: READING

Content Standard :  2.1 Pupils will be able to apply knowledge of sounds of letters to recognize words in linear and non-linear texts.

Learning Standard : 2.1.3 Able to blend two to four phonemes into recognizable words and read them aloud.

Objective : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

a)    Pronounce words correctly

b)    Read the names of animals.

Teaching and Learning Strategy :

1) Teacher shows letter cards, pupils pronounce.

2) Teacher shows picture of animals, pupils identify.

3) Teacher shows letter cards to form names of animals for example:cat. Pupils read and pronounce.

4) Pupils jump on the letters mat to spell the name of   animals.

5) Teacher shows the word cards and pupils read.

DAY 3 : WRITING

Focus         : Writing

Theme       : World of Knowledge

Topic : Sounds Around Us

Time           : 60 minutes      



Introduction       : This lesson focuses on writing. The main focus of the lesson will be on getting pupils to draw simple strokes up and down and drawing lines from left to right.

Content Standard :  3.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to form letters and words in neat and legible print including cursive writing.

Learning Standard : 3.1.1 Able to demonstrate fine motor control of hands and fingers by: 

                                    (f) drawing simple strokes up and down.

                                  (g) drawing lines from left to right.



Objective : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to draw simple strokes up and down and  drawing lines from left to right.



Teaching and Learning Strategy :

1) Teacher gets the pupils to sing the song focusing on  animal sound

2) Teacher plays the animal sound by using the Power  Point presentation, the pupils guess the sound.

3) Teacher gives some instruction , the pupils follow.

4) Teacher shows the actions such as up, down, left and   right, pupils follow the teacher by moving themselves.

5) Teacher demonstrates the correct formation of simple   lines from up and down and from left to right, pupils  respond by drawing the lines on air and on their table.

6) Pupils trace the lines and colour the pictures.

7) Pupils complete the activity sheet.

Added Value       : Pupils must use the patterns that they have learnt in drawing activity.



DAY 4: LANGUAGE ARTS

Focus         : Language Arts

Introduction       : This lesson allows pupils to enjoy a song through simple actions/sounds animals.

Content Standard :  4.1 Pupils will be able to sing songs and practice sound through performance.

Learning Standard : 4.1.2 Able to enjoy song of “Old McDonald” with actions and initiate sounds of animals.

Objective : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

a)    Imitate sounds of animals

b)    Sing a song with correct pronunciation and rhythm.  

Teaching and Learning Strategy :

1) Teacher sings a song “Old McDonald”.

2) Teacher imitates sound of animals in the song.

3) Pupils repeat after the teacher.

4) Teacher and pupils sing the song and imitate the sound  of animals together.
